Position title
Machine Learning Applications Team Lead
Description

Our highly-skilled Machine Learning Applications (MLA) team in Copenhagen is seeking a versatile team lead with a passion for formalism, heuristics, MLOps and machine learning as well as an understanding of software engineering. As MLA Team Lead, you will be a key player in a software company where decisions about data, real-time auction dynamics and machine learning are core to the success of the business. This is a rich opportunity to learn from others, and there is the flexibility to dive into experiments on your own. We are passionate about new solutions, technologies and algorithms, but pragmatic in our choice of solutions. LiveIntent Copenhagen is responsible for the development and deployment of LiveIntent's data and batch processing infrastructure, analytics and machine learning technology in close collaboration with the company's other teams in New York and Berlin.

About the Job:

We are looking for a person who can lead and inspire the MLA team. As a team lead you will be responsible for prioritization of tasks in collaboration with external stakeholders, mentoring, inspiring and growing the members of the team according to their career paths. You are also expected to represent the team within the engineering department. You will set the technical direction for the team and will be part of all stages of development, from initial sparring and exchange of ideas to prototyping, development, testing, deployment, maintenance / improvement and reporting. As a team lead you will be a central player in defining the ML and AI strategy for LiveIntent and how we deploy and maintain models at scale. We believe in flexibility under responsibility, and our development process is therefore a loosely defined hybrid of agile methods and rapid prototyping.

Your Profile:

  • Have previous professional experience with production-level Machine Learning/AI and eventually leading a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
  • Have an interest or experience with MLOps and eventually have worked with MLOps on a professional level.
  • Is interested in translating real world issues into mathematical models, mathematical statistics, and algorithms.
  • Ideally also has an interest or previous experience programming (in several languages), machine learning and / or adtech technology.
  • Have a mathematical education; such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics.
  • Have practical experience with real programming, practical and / or deep theoretical understanding of some of the following: classical statistics (i.e. hypothesis tests), ETL processing, deterministic or probabilistic machine learning, deep neural networks, recommender systems, distributed data processing using Spark, programming in Scala and/or Python, data reporting and ad hoc analysis in Athena..
  • Have product knowledge in adtech or martech.
  • Have an interest in the frontier within AI and how it practically can be brought to use.

You attack problems analytically and solutions pragmatically. You are full of good ideas, able to see opportunities in other people's ideas, and can find out about ideas in a distanced and constructive way. You love thinking about many issues and connecting them with data. You understand that finding new facets of data is more important than adjusting meta parameters to algorithms. You are happy to implement and optimize and are curious about new tasks.

We're looking for someone who will be excited to understand and involve themselves in the company's problem areas and can communicate in English with management and colleagues at the other LiveIntent offices. This person will be immersed in a dynamic environment where overall priorities and definitions will change over time, and therefore tasks will not always be prioritized.

The MLA Team:

The MLA team is central to building inhouse ML capabilities within LiveIntent and currently has 5 models which are deployed into production and we expect this number to grow. The team is responsible for a pipeline covering all facets of ML, starting with feature extraction and ending with model inference. The pipeline is built on a combination of Spark, Scala, Python, MLFlow and Airflow and is integrated into a larger batch processing pipeline that handles 10+ billions of daily events. The team is supported by the infrastructure and devops teams in LiveIntent. The current focus of the team is to learn how to deploy ML at scale in a way that is automated and robust and finding the right balance between inhouse and external technology.

The Company:

LiveIntent, one of the world’s largest people-based marketing platforms, connects 2,500 publishing and advertising brands with over 250 MM verified people every month across all types of media. With the anonymized email address at the center of its industry-leading identity graph, LiveIntent provides brands with solutions that help them monetize, acquire, and retain real people, even where cookies don’t work. LiveIntent enriches a brand’s data, making it possible for them to deepen their understanding of their audiences, and more effectively market to people wherever they are present and paying attention. LiveIntent has offices located in New York, Berlin, and Copenhagen.

LiveIntent Copenhagen started as a Danish startup company in 2013 and was acquired by LiveIntent in November 2015. We develop and operate both an online, real-time service that receives billions of requests from all over the world and from other LiveIntent components, and an offline, batch-oriented analytical data processing pipeline that prepares data for the online service by processing billions of data points.

We Offer:

We believe in freedom and flexibility under responsibility so that office hours can be adapted to your life as long as meetings are covered. If you need to work from home one day, it is completely fine, as long as you live up to what is expected. We are an international company so, while this position is located in our Copenhagen office, there is frequent collaboration between teams in Berlin and New York City.

Does that sound exciting? If so, send us an application! We are a small office with a social atmosphere so your personal profile is just as valuable to us as your technical skills. A cover letter will therefore be greatly appreciated.

How the process will look like

Your teammates will gather all requirements within our organization. Then, once priority has been discussed, you will decide as a team on the best solutions and architecture to meet these needs. In continuous increments and continuous communication between the team and stakeholders, you’re part of making data play an even more important (and understood) part withing Brand New Day.
